Immediate Needs for Transportation! The children and youth of the church are in need of hlep with transportation to and from various church activities. We have some children in Oakwood that need picked up from school on Wednesdays so that they can attend Kid's Choir and Kid's Club. Also we have several youth that need transported to and from youth group on Wednesday evenings. If necessary, these volunteer opportunities can be shared so that the burden doesn't fall on one person every week. Please contact Abby Thompson if you are willing to help.

Do people tell you that you have a winning smile? Then pleas consider being Sunday greeter! Please speak to Nancy Henderson who will be standing at her display table in the Community Romm during Fellowship time this morning.

Exploring Membership: Would you like to explore church mebership at St. James UMC? Pastor Randy and Justin will offer two Sunday morning informational meetings, Feb. 19 and 26, at 10am in the Wesley Room for anyone interested in exploring church membership. You are invited to meet with them for discussion fo the meaning of membership and for fellowship with other "explorers." While these exploratory meetings do not obligate anyone to become a church member, those who decide to join will be received as new members during worship on Sunday, March 4, 2012. See one of our pastors today!

Pastor Randy and Justin are currently working with the church staff each week on studying the book Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations and tey would now like to include members of our congregation in the discussion. This spring will be devoted solely to studying the first chapter entitled Radical Hospitality. We'd like to hold these discussions in host homes, much like last fall. Pastors Randy and Justin have selected meeting on Thursdays at 6:30pm beginning March 1 and extending almost every Thursday through May 17(if needed). A signup boooklet with available dates, host homes, and participant lists is available on the Fellowship/Volunteer table. Participants need only to sign up for one session. Please bave the entire first chapter read before you get-together. Books are available for sale in the office for $12 each.

Ash Wednesday is Feb. 22nd and there will be a sparse supper in the Community Room at 5:30pm followed by worship service at 6:30pm. The Fellowship Committee is preparing a supper of roasted vegetable soup with chicken and rice, warmed bread selections, and a veggie salad. Please RSVP for dinner using the back of your attendance cards or by calling the office!

St. James will hold a blood drive in the Community Room from 3-7pm on Monday, Feb. 27th. RSVPs are appreciated, but walk-ins are always welcome!

Cheryl Clapp will again be opening her home and holding a women's Bible study series that will begin on Thursday, March 8 at 10am. The focus will be Beth Moore's study of Daniel. Participants will need to purchase a study book. You may contact Cheryl directly if you'd like to participate or indicate your interest on the back of your attendance cards.

There is a Haworth concert scheduled in the St. James sanctuary for Sunday, March 18 at 3pm. The featured performers are a group of talented vocalists and instrumentalists called The Four Voices whose repertoire is comprised of harmony-based songs once sung by the popular 50s era ensemble The Four Freshman. Popular tunes from that group included "Route 66" and "Day by Day." Haworth concerts are free of charge.

 

2012 Mission Trip Opportunities

Detroit, MI- Mid July 2012
Our senior high youth group invites 4-6 adults to join us as we work for Motown Mission in Detroit, Michigan this summer. Jobs could include home repair, demolition, and urban agriculture.

Honduras- Aug. 26 to Sept. 3, 2012
John and Charlotte Peverly will lead a team to Talanga, Honduras to work on concerning water safety, installing safe stoves in homes, and assisting local agriculture. Trip requires a passport and ummunizations.

Peverly's are holding a very brief informational meeting beginning at 9:45am in the Chapel on Sunday, Feb. 12th.

Liberia, West Africa- January 2013
Join Pastor Randy on an unforgettable trip oversees to help our Liberian ministry partners and witness the church thriving in the third world. Trip requires a passport and ummunizations.
